Allotments for the Disabled at New Mills
This was to help fund the costs of providing better access for disabled gardeners to the allotments at Ollersett Fields. The Society, which has already allocated one plot to Tarry Hill residents, plans to create another plot for disabled residents, with raised beds that will enable wheel chair gardeners to participate in the activities. The proivision of toilets and a better firmer surface on the access path are also planned.
“The support that the Allotment Society is giving to the Tarry Hill Residents is one of the reasons that I applied for the money for the society to help them make improvements for access," said Beth Atkin. She added "When we visited the site, a work team was busy installing new drains to make the path drier and were improving the Tarry Hill plot. Gardening gives a great sense of satisfaction, as well as being healthy exercise indeed, it is something I enjoy myself” .
“We look forward to seeing the work progress, both on the plots and the planned pond and wild life area - and we hope more funding opportunities will be found to help this excellent project,” said Borough Councillor Ray Atkins, who accompanied his wife Beth on the visit.
